BMP
an older bitmap format that often stores pixels with little or no compression. It is commonly chosen for legacy Windows graphics and simple bitmap workflows.
DDS
a texture container designed for graphics hardware and game engines. It is commonly chosen for game textures, mipmaps, and real-time 3D assets.
Before you convert
The conversion changes the file container to DDS. Pixel dimensions are kept unless the destination format requires a different representation.
